The mission of BAO is to enhance the quality of life for people living with HIV / AIDS, at-risk, affected individuals, and the LGBTQ community through outreach, age-appropriate prevention education, and supportive services.  BAO was incorporated in 1985 as Alabama’s first AIDS Service Organization.  Free services provided by BAO include HIV and STD/STI testing, as well as the following for HIV positive individuals:  food and nutritional supplements, payments for prescriptions, medical items, transportation assistance, linkage to care, counseling, legal services, support groups, GED class, pet program, and case management.

BAO’s Magic City Wellness Center opened in January 2016 to provide primary care for the LGBTQ community including a PrEP Clinic.  (Individuals who are prescribed PrEP take one pill once a day to prevent HIV infection.).  The mission of the Magic City Wellness Center is to provide wellness and medical care for the LGBTQ community in a safe, welcoming and affirming environment.

BAO’s Magic City Acceptance Center opened in 2013 and provides a safe affirming place for LGBTQ youth and their allies, ages 13-24.  Free services provided at the Center include counseling, after school activities, art workshops, movie nights, summer camp, prom, and back to school parties.

BAO has a limited number of volunteer opportunities including working in our clothing department, special projects and serving on committees for special events and fundraisers.  For more information about Birmingham AIDS Outreach please visit online at
